Electricity Coverage in Bundelkhand

Electricity at home is one of the distinguishing features of the modern age, but the majority of rural households in India do not have this basic amenity.  According to Census 2001, around 70% rural households in UP did not have electricity. In all districts of UP Bundelkhand except Jhansi and Jalaun, over 80% of households did not have electricity (see second table in Amenities in Villages and Households); in rural areas, the figure would be above 90%.

According to Madhya Pradesh Human Development Report 2007 figures for the state for 2003-04, 30% of all households in the state and around 40% of rural households in the state did not have electricity. The situation was much worse in some districts of MP Bundelkhand. In Tikamgarh, 55% rural households did not have electricity; in Chhatarpur around 62% rural households did not have electricity and in Panna, over 70% rural households did not have electricity.

In both UP and MP, electricity supply is poor and marked by severe power cuts.
